Trial aborted and jury discharged without a verdict in XR cofounder Gail Bradbrook’s Department for Transport case

As deadly temperature records are set daily, the silencing of those that would speak truth to power in climate trial after climate trial can be felt. And it's chilling. The long-postponed jury trial of Dr. Gail Bradbrook, for window-breaking at the Department for Transport was aborted this week when the judge dismissed the jury. A retrial is now set for the week commencing 30 October meaning it will take place during the fifth anniversary of the Declaration of Rebellion and Extinction Rebellion’s first major action. Before the trial Gail said: “I’m trying to protect the lives and the futures of my children, all the children in the world and the generations to come."

From tomorrow: XR co-founder Gail Bradbrook on trial for £27.5k window-breaking at UK’s Department for Transport

This Thursday Extinction Rebellion co-founder Dr Gail Bradbrook goes on trial for breaking one window – valued £27,500 – at the UK’s Department for Transport in London in October 2019. The trial comes at a critical point for climate activism in the UK. With global heat records being broken daily, the Conservative government’s chilling legislative clampdown is placing severe limits on the right of protest, while judges jail people for contempt of court – just for mentioning the words climate change. Since February 2023 Judge Reid has sent three people to jail for defying his orders and explaining why they undertook their actions.

High Tide for Coal Crime: Extinction Rebellion’s Pink Boat Drops Anchor on UK’s Biggest Illegal Mine

XR's world-famous pink boat sailed back into action today and shut down the UK's largest coal mine. The mine company has been operating illegally since September when its licence expired. 300,000 tonnes of coal would have been mined by the end of May without any attempt to stop it, at a cost to the climate of almost a million tonnes of CO2. A number of activists locked themselves to the boat despite facing the threat of up to 51 weeks in jail. The occupation is ongoing and activists are encouraging people to join them on Saturday as part of the March On The Mine event.
