hosted by

Extinction Rebellion London

Fashion, Tell The Truth! This Saturday at East London Rising, Extinction Rebellion’s #boycottfashion campaign will be demanding that Fashion Tell The Truth about its devastating environmental impact.

At 2pm, on Saturday 13th July, on the main stage, XR Boycott Fashion will host a panel talking about the plurality of approaches needed to tackle a problematic fashion industry. Participants include activist Caryn Franklin, blogger Aja Barber, CEO of TRAID Maria Chenoweth, Isabelle Landicho, fashion editor, the Earth Issue, and XR’s co-founder, Clare Farrell. The panel will be hosted by XR Boycott Fashion’s Alice Wilby.

Also on Saturday 13th, between 12pm to 5pm, XR Boycott Fashion photographer Sarah Cresswell will be hosting the #boycottfashion PhotoBooth. Providing a space for supporters to have their portrait taken, sign up to the boycott and disrupt the fashion industry by refusing to buy new clothes or materials for a year.

Supporters are encouraged to repair and up-cycle; share and swap; rescue and repurpose to establish a new, ecologically friendly relationship with clothes.

Scientists say we are running out of time to tackle climate breakdown and biodiversity collapse.
In 2015, the total greenhouse gas emissions from textiles production was estimated at 1.2 billion tonnes annually of CO2 equivalent, more than those of all international flights and maritime shipping combined. If a business-as-usual scenario prevails, the apparel industry’s impact will steadily rise over the next 15 years, reaching a projected 49% increase in climate change impact by 2030. That means the apparel industry will emit 4.9 billion tonnes CO2-eq.

The boycott is a new tactical development in Extinction Rebellion’s continuing campaign to persuade fashion and its associated industries to Tell the Truth about the climate and ecological emergency and to act in accordance.
