The Solutions Tent is an area of the East London Uprising, a weekend of play, protest and education on July 12th – 14th that will feature arts, music, talks, workshops, guerrilla gardening, performances and marches, solutions area and non-violent direct action across East London.

Come and join us in the Solutions tent, where we’ll be showcasing some of East London’s brilliant projects working to combat the climate and ecological crisis. Drop by to hear talks, take part in workshops, join in the conversation, and envisage what a green, just and resilient future could look like.

12:00-13:00 Project Pico
Pico produces everyday goods that have traceable stories, things that are harder to make or mend yourself – your essentials.

In this session Pico will be running a mending circle as part of XR’s #BoycottFastFashion campaign, so do bring along your much-loved clothes that are in need of TLC! No expertise needed, but all threads, needles and patches welcome.

13:00-13:30 Growing Communities
Growing Communities has been building a fairer, more sustainable food system for over 20 years, providing real practical alternatives to the current dominant and damaging food system.

This session will be about their vision of what a fairer, more sustainable food system should look like.

13:30-14:00 Hackney Food Partnership
The Hackney Food Partnership bring together groups and individuals to help create a more healthy and sustainable food system, and to encourage and support action on food issues throughout the borough.

In this session you can learn about how changing the food system is absolutely central to tackling the climate and environmental crises.

14:00-15:00 NU Wardrobe
Are on a mission to shake up the fashion industry by doing things differently? NU Wardrobe are a group of women that are building the NU community in East London and this summer they are launching an app to enable clothes sharing amongst their members.

This session will be about the impact of Fast Fashion and and introduce the idea of their clothes sharing app as a solution.

This session will be a foraging walk around London Fields, run by an East London based forager!

EcoACTIVE is an innovative environmental education charity based in Hackney with a reputation for using hands-on, practical approaches to explore complex issues of sustainability.

13.30-14.30 Demand Energy Equality
Ian has been designing and installing off-grid renewable energy systems for 8 years, with several of those years spent living off the grid at Grow Heathrow. With Demand Energy Equality, he runs regular workshops offering an accessible introduction to off-grid system design to provide basic, practical advice on the principles of creating workable energy systems.

In this session called Demand Management; The Key to Rapid Decarbonisation, you will learn about DIY solar power, off-grid living and community energy.

14:30-15:00 Plastic Free Hackney:

About: We are a campaign group aiming to eliminate single-use plastics in the borough. We want to inspire and engage our local businesses, schools, community organisations and the Council to reduce their reliance on single-use plastics. We are hoping to share with you our journey and introduce you to local heroes and initiatives so you can feel empowered in making your own changes in going plastic-free

15:00-15:30 First Mile Easy Recycling
About: London-based recycling company that will discuss its RecycleBox program, which lets anyone recycle complex items that otherwise wouldn’t be recycled

15:30-16:00 Hackney Cycling Campaign
Hackney Cycling Campaign work to make cycling safer and more inviting in Hackney, and to speak up for people who cycle in Hackney or who would like to. They lobby and advise the London Borough of Hackney and Transport for London to do more to improve conditions for cycling.

13:00-16:00 Hackney Bike Workshop
Learn how to fix your bike in this drop in workshop.

Hackney Herbal are a social enterprise specialising in creative events which explore the beneficial uses of herbs.
