This Death Café event is a chance for a group of strangers to come together to have a conversation about death over a cup of tea and cake. The aim is to increase awareness of death because this helps people make the most of their (finite) lives.

There is no agenda, but a chance to share thoughts and experiences. While there will be time to share some feelings, it is not a grief support or counselling session. Both our lives and each Death Café is limited in length. Café sessions usually last around 90 minutes.

We are following in the footsteps of Jon Underwood and Sue Barsky-Reid who developed the first Death Cafés in 2011, inspired by the work of Bernard Crettaz. Tony and Sarah attended the first LGBTQI+ themed Death Café in 2012. Furthermore, they have attended, hosted, assisted and co-facilitated Death Cafés in a variety of settings ever since. Locations have included their home on a few occasions, the Wasinga gathering, XR events and the Winter House Weekend. Death Cafés now happen regularly around the globe.

GSDR Friendly: we welcome gender, sex and relationship diversity at our events.

Exact location will be shared once attendees have registered their interest here: https://forms.gle/bRDefwr7ackms34z5

A Death Café is never for-profit, although there may be a small fee or suggested donation to cover the cost of refreshments.

“Death does not have to be treated as an enemy for you to delight in life. Keeping death present in your consciousness as one of the greatest mysteries and as the moment of incredible transformation imbues this moment with added richness and energy that otherwise is used up in denial. Death is not an error. It is not a failure. It is taking off a tight shoe.”
